From the past ... to the Future

DHS holds a very special place in my heart!  When I first walked through those doors in 2014, I never imagined that I would have so much support and love from Principal Rivera, Faculty, and Staff.  Upon graduating in 2018, I went on to receive my associate in medical assisting and now I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. I truly never thought I had the ability to accomplish so much within my life, but DHS has helped mold me into the person I am today! Throughout my years in DHS not one person has given up on me or in seeing my potential and pushing me to go beyond my personal expectations. Till this day Mr. Rivera, Faculty and Staff remind me that I can go further and accomplish way more. I plan on furthering my education and have decided I'll be going for my Masters! Thank you to everyone in DHS who has stayed with me every step of the way and continues to be by my side!

I remember my first day of high school in 2013.  I was so scared.  By the time I graduated in 2017, I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences of my life.  (Even while I was writing this testimonial, I got nostalgic thinking about the good old days.)  I received so much support and encouragement from Mr. Rivera, my teachers, and the staff.  They gave me so much support and encouragement and they were always there when I needed them.  I am so grateful I had the chance to have them in my life, they had a huge impact on my growth and journey as a person. 

Discovery High School exceeded my expectations.  There were so many great mentors that I had, and they still support me till this day.  I know they are proud of the woman that I am today.  When I started high school, I was very shy.  Today I can say that being part of the Discovery High School Family prepared me for the real world and helped me become outgoing and confident in myself to strive for greatness.  So far I’ve received my associate degree and I am continuing my education to get my Bachelor's in Psychology while working at a non-profit organization as a Program Coordinator.

Discovery High School teachers' commitment to building relationships to improve student performance and education was a key component for my success during and after high school. The teacher and faculty support is very strong and all push for your academic success. The lessons and content that is covered serve as foundation to my future studies in science. 

As a current teacher of science, I consistently take from the expressive, passion, and practical teaching styles that I was exposed to in DHS because they put emphasis on the learning process. My experience with my teachers in DHS allowed me to become a better student, teacher, and young adult.

After DHS, I went on to Manhattan College to obtain a Bachelor’s in Environmental Science and a minor in Chemistry. I am currently teaching in a school in Manhattan, and in the process of getting my masters in science education.  

I am grateful for my time in DHS.  I know students are being prepared socially, academically, and personally for the next steps after!

Discovery High School provided me with a unique and unforgettable high school experience. Truthfully, I wasn't expecting much from high school in general, but thanks to the amazing classmates, faculty, and staff I had, it turned out to be incredible.

The teachers and staff at Discovery truly care about their students and go the extra mile to empower them to succeed. One teacher in particular stands out: Mr. Schoenstein. He consistently goes above and beyond, investing a tremendous amount of personal time and effort in helping students navigate and understand their post-secondary options.

The school also offered a variety of programs to help students explore both in-school and post-secondary opportunities. I personally benefited from programs like Summer Search and College Now, which provided me with valuable advantages that helped me get where I am today.

Thanks to the encouragement and guidance I received from classmates and especially Mr. Schoenstein, I ultimately decided to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering Technology. With just over a year left until I graduate, I'm incredibly grateful for the support I received at Discovery. I'm proud to be a Construction Engineering student, and I'll always cherish the positive impact Discovery had on my life.
